Playing it Safe. INTREN exhibit gets people talking.

There is no shortage of conferences and trade shows in the energy and utility industry. Although INTREN was widely recognized and highly respected throughout the industry, the company didn’t take its reputation for granted. Instead, it highlighted its ongoing commitment to safety training as a cornerstone of its success.

Challenge
INTREN wanted its exhibit to stand out with an interactive experience that encouraged visitors to stop, participate, and start a conversation—not simply browse the display and printed materials. With limited time and staff, the company also needed an efficient way to assess attendees’ overall safety knowledge. Bottom line – turn the display into an experience.

Solution
The industry-themed touchscreen game created a natural opening for conversation, giving staff something specific to discuss with visitors rather than starting with a generic sales pitch. It connected participants with INTREN’s branded messaging while highlighting the company’s well-established reputation for safety.

A custom designed game was presented on a large touchscreen monitor within a basic 10’ x 20’ linear exhibit. It was designed around three objectives:

  • Attract attention with an activity visitors could quickly understand
  • Encourage participation through a short, approachable challenge
  • Give exhibit staff a natural opening to discuss the company’s offerings

The short challenge invited visitors to identify field safety hazards in moving images, then provided feedback explaining correct and incorrect answers. By linking an engaging activity to INTREN’s commitment to safety, the game served a clear business purpose and gave staff an opportunity to continue the discussion.

Results
The exhibit did more than attract attention — it drew a steady stream of visitors eager to put their safety knowledge to the test. The touchscreen game brought INTREN’s message to life through hands-on participation and was used again at a subsequent conference. Comments heard during the show reflected both the strength of INTREN’s reputation and the games educational value:

“It makes sense that a leader in utility industry safety would also lead the way in communicating it at the show.”

“After 11 years in the industry, I thought I knew it all. This game politely suggested I do my homework.”
